Interactive Workshop Proposals

 Workshop sessions can be geared toward new or experienced staff and consultants, and are an opportunity to provide training on any communication center-related topic. Workshops that offer creative strategies and materials that can be adapted for use at other centers are especially encouraged. Please submit a proposed title for the session, an agenda for the workshop, and a 100-150 word abstract to carlownacc2016@gmail.com  by MARCH 1, 2016. Please label the subject line “Workshop Session.”

Great Ideas for Teachers Session (G.I.F.T.S.)

Great Ideas for Teachers is a forum to allow discussion of how to integrate the communication center into the curriculum. Previous G.I.F.T.S. sessions have included up to 6-8 participants, each sharing ideas. Please submit a proposed title and agenda for the session, as well as a list of participants and contact information to carlownacc2016@gmail.com by MARCH 1, 2016. Please label the subject line “GIFTS.”

 

 

 

 

Panel Proposals

Panels include a discussion led by up to five participants on specific themes or issues relevant to communication centers. Panel proposals should include a description of how attendees will be invited to participate. Please submit a proposed title for the session, a 100-150 word abstract, and a list of participants with contact information to carlownacc2016@gmail.com  by MARCH 1, 2016. Please label the subject line “Panel Proposal.”

 

Paper Proposals

Presentation of an original research paper that investigates a problem from an empirical or theoretical perspective. Submit abstract of 250 words by February 16, 2016 to carlownacc2016@gmail.com . The completed paper must be submitted by March 16, 2015. Additionally, submissions are also being sought for special competitive papers (see below). Please label the subject line “Paper Proposal.”

Creative Works

We encourage centers to share the creative work they have produced, including, but not limited to, interactive presentations, online teaching units, videos, and social media campaigns. Your creative work can be shared in common areas during the conference, including on the ITCC media wall, or shared in sessions showcasing creative works. We invite those who offer creative works to also submit a related panel, workshop, or paper proposal. Submissions should include a 100-word abstract including file attachments or the URL of the creative work by MARCH 1, 2016 to carlownacc2016@gmail.com . Please label the subject line “Creative Works.” Project drafts will be accepted with final digital submissions due by March 16, 2016.

Posters

Posters provide a visual presentation on a poster illustrating research from an empirical or theoretical perspective. Posters will be made available in a central meeting area for all conference attendees to review. To submit a poster proposal please send a 100-word abstract and poster size by MARCH 1, 2016 to carlownacc2016@gmail.com . Please label the subject line “Poster Submission.”

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Special Interest Groups provide scholars with common interests and questions to exchange ideas with each other for the purpose of building scholarly networks. These informal sessions provide opportunities for conversation in a supportive forum intended to generate questions, ideas, and connections. SIGs can focus on any area of communication center administration, theory, or design. Email SIG ideas to carlownacc2016@gmail.com by MARCH 1, 2016. Ideas and questions welcome. Please label the subject line “SIG.”

Outstanding Tutor Award

The award shall be presented to the person who has demonstrated excellence as a tutor in a Communication Center. Considerations include quality of assistance, dedication, knowledge, creativity, and unique contributions. No more than two nominees per institution may be nominated in a given year. Nominees may be either undergraduate or graduate students (as of May 1st of the nominating year). The name of the award will be adapted to the usage at the recipient’s institution —e.g., tutor, peer advisor, or consultant. Nominations must be submitted by March 4, 2016 to edellis@uncg.edu

 

The nomination should include:

  • A cover letter stating why the person should be recognized as an outstanding tutor in a Communication Center;

  • A statement from the nominee about his or her participation in the Communication Center;

  • The nominee's current vita;Evidence of the above considerations;

  • A minimum of two and maximum of three letters of recommendation, including: one from the director of the nominee’s Communication Center, and one from the tutoring staff at the nominee’s Communication Center.

 

The recipient will be chosen by a committee consisting of current members of NCA’s Communication Centers section. The committee will be chaired by the section’s Student Advocate. The award will be presented at the NACC conference, and reported at the NCA convention. Winner need not attend either conference.
